About Jose Ml. Alvarez
With a vision and passion for contemporary, functional architecture, José Ml. Álvarez embarked on his architectural journey, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 2006. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master’s degree in 3D Design and Visual Simulation in Architecture from Fundació UPC (Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña) in 2008, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Architecture at the IAAC (Instituto de Arquitectura Avanzada de Cataluña) in Barcelona, Spain, in 2009.
After 14 years of enriching experience at Selman Arquitectos, where he rose to the position of Senior Design Director, José ventured into independent practice, founding Álvarez Arquitectura in 2024.
In August 2024, he took a one-year pause from his studio to join Gensler Dominican Republic as a Senior Designer, gaining valuable experience within a global design practice and strengthening his collaborative approach.
In August 2025, José returned to Álvarez Arquitectura to continue developing projects that balance real possibilities with visionary ideas, always guided by functionality, context, and meaningful design.
